Problems

"Sometimes I don't remember when I took my medications. By the time taking my meds, I was so focus on taking those that I don't know when I take it."

Teenagers juggle multiple things in their lives and those who are with chronic illnesses, in particular, suffer from keeping up with medication schedule, in times of non-routines in their regular lives. Such as, weekends, vacations and social gatherings. The situation is that, the teenagers with chronic illnesses are struggling for the balance between their medication and life. They forget to take their medicine when their days are not in the routines. For examples, they are on weekends, a vacation, or participating a social gathering, they forget to take their medicine easily.

Objectives

Our project launched based on the client’s proposal. Our client is Dr. Lee, the leader of Health Design by Us, now focusing on teenagers with chronic illness.

A collaborative of patients and caregivers, healthcare providers and researchers, designers and artists, engineers and technologists, and public health professionals from the University of Michigan and surrounding community, who are passionate about patient-centered participatory design and applying the model of the maker movement to healthcare.

Our efforts focus on creating opportunities for innovation in education, research, and clinical care delivery.

Design Research

We spent longer time defining user needs then strived at the ideation phase to explore different product concepts.

Initially, we interviewed adolescent patients and caregivers as well as took comparative analysis. We did focus group interview and surveys to target user group and took 2nd round of patient interview.

Based on our findings, team created user persona and affinity diagram and user workflow. We collected design ideas and started discussing UI with whiteboarding, brainstorming. And then, we scoped and prioritized features.

Design

I designed main page of the application and basic technical feasibility, and settings.
